Woa, woa woa! "Retire" your old box to Linux? I suggest you partition the HD and whack the latest Ubuntu distro on there. In a few days Karmic Koala comes out. You'll be stunned at how quickly and smoothly the install goes. Amazed that all your apps work right out of the box - heck you can run wine and have all your windows apps going too! I've not yet found anything MS that doesn't run on wine - even Office.

I disagree that it's possible to run all Microsoft apps in Wine at full efficiency. I've already tried Ubuntu, but I have to say that I prefer Windows.
