    'Self-hosting' does not mean paying else somebody to host the site for you. It means hosting it yourself, like on your own computer. S-e-l-f H-o-s-t-i-n-g. Duh. Carry on amusing!

    Yes Sharron, we can all make our own languages up as we go along, but the idea here is to communicate what we mean to say. Try Googling, and see how the rest of the English speaking world uses this termm in a web-hosting context. It's not difficult to set up IIS, if you are interested in trying it out.

    I had an IIS server, both FTP and web server, running during 2003/4. From experience I arrived at the conclusion that it was more convenient, and cheaper in the long run, to rent space on a professionally-hosted server. If you prefer to host your domain on your own computer then it does have its advantages as well as its disadvantages.

    I would encourage any other readers to give IIS a try; just to see what you think.
